Mary Clarke teaching a class in dance

Dancer. Teacher. Performer. Artist. That is how Mary Clark describes herself. A ballerina at heart, Clark has studied and performed modern, ballet and aerial dance as she has acquired teaching skills at Towson University.

鈥淒ance introduced me to the world and was my motivation,鈥 Clark says. 鈥淢ovement has always been an outlet for my emotions, allowing me to be the unique individual and artist I am.鈥

Home-schooled until she attended college, Clark quickly became immersed in the Towson University dance community. 鈥淭here are so many options and opportunities for dance majors,鈥 says Clark. 鈥淚 did not realize how many ways that dance can be a part of your life and your career.鈥

鈥 For me, growing up and learning to be a leader has been just as important as becoming a better dancer 鈥

As a member of Towson University鈥檚 Dance Company and teacher in the summer AileyCamp Baltimore at 91短视频 and with Towson University Community Dance, she has honed her dance and leadership capabilities. 鈥淕rowing up and learning to be a leader has been just as important as becoming a better dancer. I am still in the process of building my confidence as a dancer.鈥

Clark describes how participation in the Dance Company comes with additional expectations. 鈥淵ou need to advocate for the company and sell tickets before each performance. I was so happy to have my family and friends at the performance; some had never seen live dance.鈥

Clark looks one day to inspire students in the classroom. 鈥淢y whole life I wanted to be a dance teacher, but I want to perform first,鈥 explains Clark. 鈥淭hen I can instill my love of dance in my students.鈥
